Hampiðjan after the Crisis

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

The site for the shooting is the former location of Iceland's largest fishing net manufacturer. The lot was bought up by Landsbankinn, one of the banks that precipitated the crisis, and housed for a little over a year or so an experimental artists' complex, Klink and Bank, which was used as a promotional feature for the bank and its main owner, Björgúlfur Guðmundsson. Just befor the crisis the buildings were torn down and the intention was to build a complex of luxury apartments there, a plan that was heavily champoined under the heading of 'Hlemmur +' by both memebers of the city council and the spokespeople of Landsbankinn. Hlemmur is the area around the main bus station and has been urn down for the last 20 years or so. Alas, the site has not seen any developement since the crisis and the collapse of Landsbankinn. The work is a dual panorama of the site, forever circulating both clockwise and counterclockwise within its boundaries.
